No. 91!
Based on the 323i, Alpina developed a compact yet incredibly powerful sports sedan that was far more than just a three-wheeler with a big engine. And the engine of the B6 is indeed big. The 2.8-liter engine in the 528i with 184 hp provided plenty of driving pleasure. But Alpina gave the large engine a thorough overhaul before implanting it in the three-cylinder model, digging deep into the cylinder head and increasing the compression ratio. A Zenith-DL injection system from Pierburg-Solex and a distributorless Hartig ignition system boosted output to 200 hp.
The first 200 hp 3 Series, and that in 1979. From the sound of it, you might think that this engine has no business in this body. Nevertheless, it transforms the 3 Series into a fun guarantor for the road and disappoints in the smallest way.
